Impact 2024: Shapes of Tomorrow

WOAMY. How might deep tech startups in the bio-foam industry use their existing resources to make their product easy to understand? Woamy has been working on startup-friendly ways to create awareness using minimum cost and resources. Our goal? To make it easy for potential clients to grasp the benefits and applications of Woamy’s product!

FORTUM. We tackled the challenges of shifting perceptions around renewable energy projects. We aim to replace the resistance from host communities towards the projects with a sense of pride and ownership. We aspire to empower individuals to influence the solutions to their challenges by fostering open dialogue and creative collaboration

NORDEA. How can Nordea surprise customers in their life events? Is a bank even able to do that?

AGI FOREST21. We took on the challenge of reviving South Africa's forestry industry head-on. What might be the way to turn low-value wood into a high-value product? How would it be a sustainable solution?

ONEGO BIO. Have you ever wondered, what happens to the waste stream left from the fermentation process? We worked on a mission to transforming fermentation by-products, promoting a circular economy and sustainable industry practices.

WARMING SURFACES. How can a small startup company build the world's most recognized brand for warmth? We are helping The Warming Surfaces company boost innovation with its versatile Halia technology and make Halia the leading brand for warmth!

FELM. Our team collaborated with FELM (Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission) to explore innovative approaches to advance decolonization in the peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development sectors. During our project, we've addressed the complexities of international aid and its deep connections to fields such as politics and economics. Despite the challenging nature of these topics, we promote an optimistic outlook for a more equitable and bright future. Our proposal for this transition focuses on empowering locally-led work and resources while shifting the role of international non-governmental organizations to act more as facilitators.

GUBBE. Gubbe is a startup company that provides comprehensive care services focused on enhancing the well-being, functional capacity, and health of elderly or disabled individuals. In IDBM Industry Project, together with Gubbe, our team focused on enhancing Gubbe's impact assessment method in order to better align it with their services expansion into the public sector. We worked on identifying new data points and collection methods within Gubbe's care services to demonstrate holistic value, facilitate smoother engagement with possible government bodies and foster broader community impact. This project was one of two startup collaborations as part of the EIT-HEI Initiative project C-ACCELERATE, focusing on entrepreneurial education in creative fields.

ATTRACT. With the highly advanced bioimaging tech, we hope to implement positive changes to healthcare industry, shaping a more sustainable future for humans! This project was done in collaboration with EU.

OTAVA. Do you want to sign up for a job that demands consistent overtime, maybe no weekends? That’s the reality of many teachers in Finland! Why does that happen? And in what way can we ease their work with the support of technology?

WÄRTSILÄ. Service coordinators are the backbone of Wärtsilä’s global operations, and they play a critical role of dealing with multiple jobs and stakeholders simultaneously. For them, no two jobs are alike! They face an overwhelming sea of information and urgent issues every day. Is there any way to help them gain a clearer view of potential problems and manage information more effectively?

SUGAR. How might two early-stage imaging technologies be utilized to reinvent the quality monitoring of wine? This project was done in collaboration with Linköping University in Sweden.
